The current version doesn't have any serious problems. But a rewrite was necessary for future development direction of the code. The intent is to introduce much greater flexibility in allowing development of more complicated grid technologoies such as overset and also providing a way for multi-disciplinary problems. As the easiest example, the new code can do coupled simulations of fluid flow next to a solid conducting heat.
Much has been completed in the new code. I just finished getting the turbulence model working today. There are so many more things I want to add but I just can't create enough time. Anyway, I will be making an alpha release very soon and then I will keep developing. That brings me to your point about the need for more testing. As a single developer, I am relying on you to share your experiences with me so that we can construct a large set of validation problems together. So if you have any cases that can be validated against other codes or experimental data, by all means post them here or send me an e-mail. When enough is accumulated, I will dedicate a section on the website to validation.
